由来・語源
19世紀から見られる表現で、もともと「piece of one’s mind」は「意見・考え」の意味。そこから「それを相手にぶつける＝叱りつける」という比喩になった。

強い不満や怒りを込めて相手を叱るニュアンス。やや口語で強めなので、職場などでは言い方に注意。
文法・使い方の注意点（日本語）
定型は「give＋人＋a piece of＋所有格＋mind」。所有格はmy/yourなどに置換可。時制変化（gave/has given）や助動詞（I’ll/going to）とよく一緒に使う。
