由来・語源

元は英語圏の法律的発想(疑わしきは罰せず/不確かな場合は相手に有利に)に由来し、日常では「善意に解釈する」の意味で定着。

英語では「give+人+the benefit of the doubt」の語順が基本。the は通常省略不可。時制で give/gave/given に変化し、目的語の人は代名詞も可。
