「両取り（相反する利益の同時獲得）は無理」という発想を表す英語表現。古くから “have it both ways” があり、そこに否定形が定着した。

英語では定型句としてほぼ固定。「it」は状況全体を指すことが多い。後ろに “either A or B” を続けて具体化する用法が多い。
